The Totally New Show: Wigan Old Courts

posted in: News | 0

It’s been a fun week, the highlight of which so far has been appearing at Wigan Old Courts’ Totally New Show.  What an amazing place.  When the building was sold on to a potential developer by the council, it was set to go the way of most historic buildings, (flats/bars/shops), and that was what the developer intended.  However, when the developer’s daughter started doing a creative writing course, a light went on in said developer’s head and she realised that local arts groups could use the space.  So, Wigan’s artistic visionaries gave it a go.  I was lucky enough to perform in what used to be the Courtroom and was not in the least bit perturbed to be standing where the dock once was.  Honestly, your honour.  It was a lovely evening with open mic poetry, improv, American standup Lisa McCabe and myself.   Thanks to Louise Fazackerly for inviting me and organising the whole thing.  Tribute must also be paid to the fact that they are completely self-financing.  A wonderful night in a wonderful place.
